Microneedling FAQs
What is Microneedling?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, this involves using a machine to create microchannels in the skin at a desired depth to stimulate the body's healing process. The micro-channels stimulate keratinocytes and fibroblasts to produce numerous growth factors that induce collagen and elastin production, generating new skin cells to repair themselves and aiding scar reduction. Blood supply is also enhanced without leaving any damage to the epidermis at all. Over the following weeks, the skin becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful.
What conditions can Microneedling treat?
Our Microneedling Treatments can address a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- A reduction in acne and chicken pox scarring
- Helps to tighten the skin and restore elasticity to ageing and sun-damaged skin
- Reduces the appearance of stretch marks
- Softens fine lines on the face, hands and décolleté
- Thickens the skin to reduce lines and wrinkles
- Reduction in the appearance of scarring
- Helps reduce pigmentation marks
How long does Microneedling take?
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a topical local anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area about to be treated. This is left on for around 20 minutes to take effect. The cream is removed, and needling begins, which can take 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
The roller is repeatedly rolled over the skin to produce thousands of micro-medical needle columns. Each column will penetrate the skin's dermis by approximately 0.1mm.
The column will close rapidly, enabling the skin to recover quickly – often on the same day. The treated skin will show micro bleeding, which is the treatment's required endpoint.
The skin will be cleansed following the treatment, and the appropriate skin care will be applied, enabling the products to sink deep into the dermal layers.
Is Microneedling painful?
The area may be anaesthetised with a topical local anaesthetic and should not be painful. However, the brow area and the upper lip are slightly more sensitive to treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on several factors, including age, the area being treated, and skin condition and damage. In most cases, it is a course of 3 or 6 treatments, generally spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. A one-off treatment is recommended every 6 months to maintain the effects.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
Microneedling is suitable for most skin types. However, it is not ideal for clients who:
- Have used Roaccutane (isotretinoin) within the last 6 months.
- Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions to the skin.
- Have had radiation treatment within the last year.
- Have a current outbreak of herpes simplex (cold sores), active acne, or any other infection or chronic skin condition in the area to be treated.
- Have areas of the skin that are numb or lack sensation.
- Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?
- Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.
The caveat is that your local medical professional, such as a GP or nurse, must have signed off to say that treatment can proceed.
What is the pre-care procedure?
- Do not shave the treatment area on the day of your appointment.
- If you're prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days before and on the day of treatment.
- Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days before your microneedling session.

- Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks before your procedure.
- Avoid blood-thinning agents for one week prior if safe to do so/cleared by your medical professional. This is due to bruising being a common side effect of microneedling. Arnica tablets can be taken to reduce the risk of bruising (start taking 2-3 days before the appointment).
- Avoid waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.
- Clients must not have an active cold sore. If you are prone to cold sores, please let us know so we can discuss your options.
- Avoid sun tanning or tanning creams/sprays for at least a week before treatment.
- Refrain from chemical peels or other skin procedures, such as Botox or filler injections, for 2 weeks before treatment.
- Increase water intake by at least 1.5 litres.
What is the aftercare procedure?
- Use your aftercare products as instructed.
- Clinicare concentrated cleaning foam is recommended for cleansing.
- Do NOT use perfume, alcohol, or acid-based products for at least 4 weeks.
- Pat dry the area if wet.
- Exercise or vigorous physical activity should be avoided for the first 48 hours.

Please note that failure to follow the aftercare advice given can increase some of these risks.
Microplasma FAQs
What is Microplasma Treatment?
Microplasma (also known as electrosurgery) involves ionising the gases between the device and the tissue to be treated to create a small electrical beam called a plasma arc. This arc vaporises the superficial layers of the skin, stimulating the immediate contraction of skin fibres, giving an immediate tightening and lifting effect to the area and promoting skin rejuvenation.
The treatment is performed to a highly accurate target without damaging the surrounding or deeper skin structures.
Local anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area, after which the area is treated. Immediately, small circular brown patches known as carbon crusts will appear at each treatment point due to tissue carbonisation, and, in the case of wrinkle treatment, the area will show immediate contraction.
What conditions can Microplasma treat?
Our Mico-plasma Treatments can address a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Dynamic lines
- Mini neck lift
- Mole removal
- Mini face lift
- Wrinkles
- Laughter lines (crows' feet)
- Actinic keratosis
- Adenoma sebaceum
- Angiokeratoma
- Angiomas
- Condyloma acuminatum
- Keratoacanthoma
- Molluscum contagiosum
- Warts
- Seborrheic keratosis
- Face telangiectasias (spider veins)
- Varicose veins
- Venous lakes
- Angiomas
- Perioral lines
- Skin spot removal
- Xanthelasma
- Small neoformations (seborrheic warts, dyskeratosis, fibroids)
- Scars, acne and acne scars
- Tattoo removal
- Stretch marks.
How long does Microplasma take?
The duration of the treatment will vary depending on the surface area and thickness of the tissue being treated; however, micro-plasma appointments generally range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the treatment you require and the number of areas treated. Up to 60 minutes of this is to ensure your anaesthetic has taken full effect.
Is Microplasma painful?
The area will be anaesthetised with a topical/local anaesthetic and should not be painful. However, many factors influence how comfortable treatment is, including the area being treated, your stress levels, when you last ate, and even how hydrated you are.
How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on several factors, including age, the area being treated, and skin condition and damage. In most cases, you will need only one treatment (no more than 4), spaced 4-12 weeks apart.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
Micro-plasma Treatment is suitable for most skin types/people; however, it is not ideal for clients who:
- Allergies to local anaesthetics.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Fitzpatrick skin types four or above.
- Active autoimmune diseases.
- Bacterial and viral skin infections (eg, active herpes).
- Fever or current infections.
- Diseases that may affect the healing process (eg, uncontrolled diabetes).

- Do not use topical agents that may increase your skin's sensitivity, such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days before your treatment (or 4 weeks prior for oral retinoids).
- Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks before your procedure.
Avoid receiving any filler, PDO threads, or anti-wrinkle injections in the area being treated within the 12 weeks before treatment.
What should I do after Microplasma treatment?
- Use your aftercare products as instructed.
- Clinicare concentrated cleaning foam is recommended for cleansing.
- Do NOT use perfume, alcohol, or acid-based products for at least 4 weeks.
- Pat dry the area if wet.
- Exercise or vigorous physical activity should be avoided for the first 48 hours.
- Use no less than SPF-30 anytime you are in direct DAYLIGHT.

- Do NOT place any plasters on the area; at most, a sterile gauze can be used with microfiber tape no closer than 2cm from the edge of the treated area.
- Do NOT pick any scabbing.
- If the scabs are removed other than by natural shedding, this increases the risk of discolouration and scarring.
Cool compresses can help reduce swelling. Use intermittently for a short period.
Should you need clarification on any of the above or further aftercare advice, do not hesitate to contact the clinic.
How successful is Microplasma?
Lesion removal:
- Due to this treatment's precision, in most cases, only one treatment is required.
- Immediate visible results
Skin tightening using Microplasma:
- Full results are visible 4-5 months after treatment
- Multiple treatments may be required.
- Typically, no more than four treatments can be performed, spaced 4-12 weeks apart.
- Results of treatment can last approximately 2- 5 years, depending on the individual.
How long does it take for Microplasma to heal?
The following is the typical healing range for lesion removals using Microplasma across different body parts, though it can vary widely.
The healing process is a complicated, multifaceted set of variables that, aside from the direct type of trauma, can include general health, sleep hygiene, nutrition, stress, hormone cycles and much more. Improvements could still be seen 12–18 months after the given date ranges.
- Scabbing will fall away after approximately 5-20 days.
- 2-3 weeks after this, there will be redness, flaking, and itching in the treated area, where pink "baby" skin has formed.
- The colour, shape/texture of the new skin should return to normal within 4-12 weeks, with further potential improvements in 12-24 weeks.
- The area may tingle and be hypersensitive for 4-8 weeks.
Non-surgical blepharoplasty (Upper/lower eyelids), additional:
- Extreme swelling 0-3 days, which is worse in the morning and evenings
- Discolouration of the tissue could last up to 18 months (slight pink hue)
Failure to follow aftercare advice can affect the healing process and increase the risk of complications.
What are the potential risks and complications?
- If you suffer from cold sores (Herpes simplex), treatment may trigger a reactivation.
- Blisters at the site of treatment
- Erythema (long-term)
- Post-inflammatory Hypo/Hyper-pigmentation (lightening/darkening of the skin)
- Scaring
- Purpura (red-purple discolouration) may be observed. Any such bruising will be temporary.
- Dermal tissue structure damage (depressed or raised spot)
Please note that failure to follow the aftercare advice given can increase these risks.
Non-surgical Blepharoplasty FAQs
What is non-surgical blepharoplasty treatment?
Non-surgical Blepharoplasty, also known as a mini eye lift or mini brow lift, is a quick and easy non-surgical treatment using micro-plasma.
Our specialist micro-plasma devices offer a safe, minimally invasive and effective treatment. It utilises micro-plasma technology, which involves ionising gases between the device and the tissue to be treated to create a small electrical beam called a plasma arc. This arc vaporises (causes sublimation – the process of turning a solid straight into a gas, transferring no heat to surrounding tissues) the superficial layers of the skin, which stimulates the instant contraction of skin fibres, giving an immediate tightening and lifting effect to the area and promoting skin rejuvenation.
What conditions can a non-surgical blepharoplasty treat?
This treatment is ideal for hooded eyelids (baggy eyelids), bags under the eyes and general tightening of loose and excess skin around your eyes. Mini eye lifts are also ideal for addressing lines and wrinkles around your eyes, such as laughter lines, also known as crows' feet.
How long does non-surgical Blepharoplasty take?
Non-surgical Blepharoplasty appointments range from 120 – 150 minutes, with up to 60 minutes to ensure your anaesthetic has taken full effect.
Is a non-surgical blepharoplasty painful?
The area will be anaesthetised with a topical/local anaesthetic and should not be painful. However, many factors influence how comfortable treatment is, including the area being treated, your stress levels, when you last ate, and even how hydrated you are.
How many sessions will I need?
The results of treatment can last approximately 2-5 years, depending on the individual.
Multiple treatments may be required, depending on the desired results. This is discussed during your consultation and during your free follow-up 4-12 weeks post-treatment, which is part of our aftercare service.
Typically, no more than four treatments can be performed, spaced 4-12 weeks apart.

PDO Threads FAQs
What are PDO threads?
A PDO (Polydioxanone) thread uses dissolvable sutures to rejuvenate and lift sagging skin. These threads are anchored and inserted into different layers of the skin using needles, instantly lifting and tightening sagging skin.
- Monos are a type of PDO filament which can be inserted into the skin in a mesh-like pattern to help increase skin tightness. The procedure is known for its minimal invasiveness.
- Cogs have barbs which hook onto the skin to provide support and lift the sagging tissue.
- Screws have one or two intertwined threads around the needle and provide good volume restoration to sunken areas of the skin.
What conditions can PDO threads treat?
Because a PDO thread lift is so versatile, our PDO thread treatments can address a variety of concerns, including but not limited to:
- Neck
- Jowls
- Jaw line
- Nasolabial folds
- Crow's feet
- Undereye area
- Eyebrows
- Cheeks
- Marionette lines
How long do PDO threads take?
We allow a minimum of 1 hour for our PDO thread appointments, but this may vary depending on how many areas are being treated.
Are PDO threads painful?
The area will be anaesthetised with a topical/local anaesthetic and should not be painful. However, many factors influence how comfortable treatment is, including the area being treated, your stress levels, when you last ate, and even how hydrated you are.

Please note that failure to follow the aftercare advice given can increase these risks.
Phototherapy FAQs
What is Phototherapy treatment?
Our light therapy treatments are delivered with our medical-grade Triwave MD phototherapy device, the world's strongest. It works by activating the skin's photoreceptors, using specific wavelengths of light to energise skin cells, allowing them to absorb the energy and trigger natural repair and regeneration. It accelerates the biochemical circulation in cells and stimulates collagen production, among other processes. The treatment works at the cellular level, targeting a variety of skin issues.
While excessive UV light damages the skin, controlled levels of red, blue and near-infrared light have clinically proven benefits - from reducing inflammation to accelerating healing and stimulating collagen.
The light energy is absorbed by key molecules (chromophores) in the skin, prompting a process called photobiomodulation — similar to how plants use light for growth. Energised cells work more efficiently, leading to faster healing and visibly healthier, more radiant skin.
Results depend on the wavelength precision and the light intensity delivered. Each wavelength targets different layers of the skin, so professional systems like the Tri-Wave MD ensure optimal power and depth for consistent results.
What conditions can Phototherapy treat?
Our phototherapy treatments use particular light wavelengths working in the deeper layers of the skin to address a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Inhibiting bacteria formation
- Stimulating collagen production
- Combating hyperpigmentation/age spots and reducing inflammation.
- Visibly decreasing blemishes, coarse skin, a dull complexion, enlarged pores, fine lines, periocular wrinkles, rosacea and skin laxity.
- Increasing your skin's capacity to absorb nutrients
How long does Phototherapy take?
A treatment generally takes between 20 and 30 minutes. You'll need to remove your makeup before a treatment, and if galvanic therapy is being used, gel will be applied to the face before treatment.
Is Phototherapy painful?
No, there is no risk of irritation, side effects, or downtime associated with more invasive procedures.
How many sessions will I need?
Generally, we would recommend a course of 6–10 treatments, depending on the results you are looking for. We would initially recommend these once a week, after which we will conduct a follow-up consultation and determine the best treatment plan.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
Almost everyone can benefit from LED Light Therapy. However, those with a slow metabolism or sluggish cellular activity will achieve the most remarkable results.
This being said, a full consultation will need to be carried out before the treatment, and clients will need to see their GP before any treatment can be carried out if you:
- Have a pacemaker fitted
- Are pregnant
- Suffer from epilepsy.
- Using Retin-A / Accutane treatments or certain medications that cause photosensitivity
- Have active photosensitive conditions
It is strongly advised that, if your phototherapy treatment is to be carried out in conjunction with a treatment that involves breaking the dermal layer (i.e., using needles or ablative treatment), you avoid blood-thinning agents for one week before treatment, if safe to do so/cleared by your medical professional.
What is the pre-care procedure?
Please make your practitioner aware of any medical conditions that may affect the treatment, such as pregnancy, cold-sore tendencies, allergies, recent facial peels, laser or surgery, and any types of contraindicated medications, such as Accutane, hormone replacement therapy, steroidal medications, or Retin-A. Contraindicated medications should be discontinued five days before the treatment, except Accutane, which must be discontinued for six months prior.
- Stay Hydrated before your appointment – Drink at least 2 litres of water per day, for the entire course of treatments if multiple are needed.
- Avoid alcohol for a minimum of 24 hours before your appointment.
- Avoid caffeine on the day of treatment.
- Please avoid using any topical treatments, AHAs, Retinol, or acid-based products for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
- It is strongly advised to avoid blood-thinning agents for 1 week before treatment, if safe to do so/cleared by your medical professional. Particularly if your treatment involves breaking the dermal layer (i.e using needles or ablative treatment)
What is the aftercare procedure?
Although there is no strict aftercare, we always strongly recommend the following:
- Avoid alcohol for a minimum of 24hours after your appointment.
- Avoid strenuous activity for a minimum of 24hours post-treatment unless otherwise advised.
- If you use blood-thinning agents, please ask your practitioner when you can start taking them (if you have been advised to stop them for treatment)

How successful is Phototherapy?
- Visible improvement can be seen after just one treatment, depending on the condition's severity and your own personal skin type.
- A course of treatments will always show greater results.
- Maintenance treatments and a good home skincare routine are necessary if you want your results to last.
How long does Phototherapy take to heal?
There is no risk of irritation, side effects, or downtime associated with more invasive procedures.
If you're not combining Phototherapy with other treatments, you may reapply makeup straight away (if applicable) and can go into the sun immediately; however, always ensure a suitable SPF is applied.
What are the potential risks and complications?
There have been no reported side effects in over 1,700 clinical studies, and it does not harm the body. There is no risk of irritation, side effects, or downtime associated with more invasive procedures.
How does Triwave MD compare to at-home LED masks?
LED Phototherapy is well supported for many skin and healing uses, but outcomes depend on the device, dose, and treatment course. Not all LED systems are equal — look for third-party specs (irradiance, wavelengths, certification) and published clinical protocols. Tri-Wave MD is positioned at the professional/medical end of the market (CE Class IIa, clinician-operated), which is why clinics typically choose it for post-procedural healing and medically directed acne treatments.
Tri-Wave MD offers higher, more uniform irradiance and validated dosing — this generally means faster, more reliable outcomes compared to low-power consumer masks that deliver lower fluence and less uniform coverage.
Is LED Phototherapy the same as laser or IPL?
No - LED Phototherapy is low-intensity, non-thermal and modulates cellular activity (photobiomodulation). Lasers/IPL use focused light to ablate, coagulate or target chromophores; they work by different mechanisms and can have downtime.
Radiofrequency FAQs
What is Radiofrequency treatment?
Focused Radiofrequency treatment uses oscillating electric currents through an antenna or electrode to generate electromagnetic waves. Penetrating down into the skin energy, safely heating the fat layer, causing fat cells to increase their metabolism, release lipids (liquid fat) into their environment and shrink.
What does Radiofrequency treat?
Our Radiofrequency treatments can be applied as a stand-alone treatment. However, they are most effective when combined with other treatments we offer, such as our Facials or DMA (Dynamic muscle activation). Together, these can address a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Diminish stubborn fat deposits
- Contour the body and reduce the circumference
- Reduce the appearance of cellulite
- Tighten the skin and minimise laxity
- Improve the texture of the skin
- Firm the muscles
How long does Radiofrequency take?
The treatment duration will vary depending on the type of treatment you select. Our facial appointments are scheduled for a minimum of 60 minutes, whereas for body contouring, the treatment time depends on the size of the treated area and the number of treatment areas; however, we generally allocate a minimum appointment time of 70 minutes.
Is radiofrequency painful?
Radiofrequency treatment feels like a warm sensation on the skin, though if you're sensitive to heat, you might find it slightly uncomfortable.

Scar Revision FAQs
What is scar revision?
Scar revision can be a combination of treatments. The primary treatment is Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy), using a machine to create microchannels in the skin at a desired depth to stimulate the body's healing process. This process also helps break down old scar tissue and stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. This is usually used alongside Phototherapy and/or mesotherapy (a technique that uses wonderful needles to deliver a series of injections into the middle layer – "mesoderm" – of skin)
What can scar revision treat?
Radiofrequency Microneedling can treat most scars on the face and body, including:
- Surgery scars
- Injury scars
- Self-harm scars
- Acne scars
- Hypertrophic scars (raised white scars)
- Sunken scars
- Stretch marks
How long does scar revision take?
The treatment duration will vary depending on the surface area and thickness of the tissue being treated, but we allocate a minimum appointment time of 60 minutes.
Is scar revision painful?
The area may be anaesthetised with a topical local anaesthetic and should not be painful. However, the brow area and the upper lip are slightly more sensitive to treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
- 3 to 6 treatments are recommended, depending on age, the area being treated, and skin condition and damage.
- Treatments spaced 4 and 8 weeks apart
- One-off treatment may be recommended every 3-6 months thereafter to maintain the effects, depending on the type of scarring.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
We can examine your scars and determine whether microneedling for skin rejuvenation will benefit your situation. Microneedling, when combined with Phototherapy or mesotherapy, is suitable for most skin types. However, it is not ideal for clients who:

Steam Extraction FAQs
What is Steam extraction?
Steam extraction is a treatment we may suggest as an addon to one of our signature facials. It is where warm steam is applied to the skin to soften debris within pores, followed by manual extraction of blackheads and clogged pores by one of our trained specialists.
The purpose is not only to loosen compacted sebum and keratin but also to increase the skin's pliability and facilitate safer, more effective extractions when performed correctly.
What can Steam extraction treat?
Steam extraction is most suitable for:
- Blackheads (open comedones)
- Whiteheads (closed comedones)
- Congested or oily skin
- Dull skin caused by the buildup of dead skin cells and debris
In some instances, it may also help with Mild, non-inflammatory acne and as pre-treatment skin preparation before masks or active ingredients.
It is worth noting that this treatment is not suitable for:
- Moderate to severe inflammatory acne
- Hormonal acne
- Cystic or nodular acne (requires medical treatment)
How long does a Steam extraction appointment take?
We typically allocate 60-90 minutes to our facial appointments, depending on the chosen treatment addons.
In this case, the time for steam extraction within the overall facial appointment is split into two parts. The first is the steam phase; this typically takes 5–10 minutes (Excessive steaming is avoided to prevent irritation and dehydration).
The extraction phase typically takes 10–20 minutes, depending on congestion level and skin tolerance.
Is Steam extraction painful?
Mild discomfort or pressure during extractions is normal, but pain should never be sharp or excessive.
Factors such as Skin sensitivity or the Degree of congestion can affect comfort.
If extractions are painful, the treatment is stopped to prevent skin trauma.
How many sessions will I need?
- For congested skin, the Initial course of 1 facial every 4–6 weeks is typically recommended.
- Maintenance is generally recommended every 6–8 weeks, depending on skin type and oil production.
Important note: Over-extraction or frequent steaming can damage the skin barrier and worsen sensitivity or breakouts. During your consultation, our specialists will assess your skin and tailor your treatment plan to your specific needs, helping avoid damage and minimise outbreaks.
Who is not suitable for the treatment?
Contraindications that we need to consider can include:
- Rosacea or couperose-prone skin
- Severe acne or inflamed pustules
- Broken capillaries or very sensitive skin
- Eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis in the treatment area
- Sunburn or compromised skin barrier
Relative contraindications (use caution):
- Asthma (steam can trigger breathing difficulties)
- Pregnancy (short, gentle steam only if approved)
- Recent chemical peels, microneedling, or laser treatments
What is the pre-care procedure?
Before your facial:
- Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, and acids for 48–72 hours prior
- Avoid excessive sun exposure
- Do not pick or squeeze blemishes before treatment
- Inform your therapist of medications (e.g., isotretinoin history)
Professional assessment:
-
A skin consultation should determine whether steam is appropriate or should be omitted.
What is the aftercare procedure?
- Avoid touching or picking the skin
- Skip makeup for 12–24 hours if possible
- Avoid heat (saunas, hot showers, intense exercise) for 24 hours
- Use a gentle cleanser, calming serum, and moisturiser
- Apply SPF daily
- Avoid harsh exfoliants or active ingredients for 48 hours
How successful is Steam extraction?
Very effective for immediate removal of blackheads and congestion; however, results may be temporary if not supported by good home care and lifestyle choices.
Best outcomes for congested skin are achieved when combined with a Consistent skincare routine, regular professional facials and appropriate exfoliation and hydration.
Number of treatments recommended for optimal results:
- 1 treatment every 4–6 weeks initially
- Maintenance every 6–8 weeks
What are the healing expectations for Steam extraction?
- Mild redness or sensitivity
- You may experience slight swelling around the extracted pores
- Skin returns to normal; Pores appear more precise and smoother within 24-48 hours
What are the potential risks and complications of Steam extraction?
Typical, temporary effects:
- Redness, mild swelling and sensitivity
Possible risks if Steam extraction is poorly performed:
- Broken capillaries
- Skin barrier damage
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Infection from improper hygiene
- Worsening of acne or rosacea
To minimise these risks, our specialists are fully trained in our facial addon treatments, including steam extraction, applying minimal pressure during extractions, avoiding steam on unsuitable skin types, and following strict hygiene protocols.

B complex:
- People with certain health conditions, including HIV, alcohol use disorder, and Crohn's disease, may not absorb vitamin B effectively.
Vitamin C:
- People who already have high levels of iron in their bodies.
- People who have kidney disease
- Vitamin C can make your urine more acidic. In some cases, this can change how your body metabolises certain medications. This, in turn, can alter the levels of certain medicines in your body, leading to decreased effectiveness or increased side effects. Some of these medications include: fluphenazine (Prolixin), magnesium salicylate (Novasal), mexiletine (Mexitil), and salsalate.
Biotin:
Although there is no evidence that biotin interacts with any medication, some medications may deplete biotin levels. If you are being treated with any of the following medications, talk to your health care provider first:
- Antibiotics - Long-term antibiotic use may lower biotin levels by destroying the bacteria in the gut that produce biotin.
- Anticonvulsant Medications - Long-term use of these medications can deplete the body's biotin stores. Valproic acid can cause biotinidase deficiency, for which biotin supplements may help.
Anticonvulsant medications include:
- Carbamazepine (Carbatrol)
- Phenobarbital
- Phenytoin (Dilantin)
- Primidone (Mysoline)
Vitamin D:
- Sarcoidosis
- High amount of phosphate in the blood
- High amount of calcium in the blood
- An excessive amount of vitamin D in the body
- Kidney stones
- Decreased kidney function
Caveat being, if your local medical professional, such as a GP or nurse, has signed off to say that treatment can go ahead.

- Breathing problems
- Chest pain
- Skin rashes/hives.
Dermaplaning FAQs
What is Dermaplaning treatment?
Dermaplaning is a safe and straightforward procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and removing fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). It is extremely safe when performed by a professionally trained technician. The technique is performed by using a specialised sterile surgical instrument. Once the skin is prepped correctly, the technician holds it taut and gently scrapes the blade at a 45-degree angle.
What are the benefits of Dermaplaning?
All skin types can benefit from Dermaplaning. Even men can be treated (only in non-bearded areas). It is particularly beneficial for clients suffering from:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scarring
- Fine vellus facial hair (peach fuzz)
- Uneven & rough skin
- Dull skin
Please note that it is important to always discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities with your technician before starting a treatment.
How long does Dermaplaning take?
Dermaplaning is offered as an "add-on" to our tailored signature facials. Our facial appointments, which include Dermaplaning, are scheduled for a minimum of 75 minutes.
Is dermaplaning painful?
No, Dermaplaning is an exfoliative technique that uses the edge of a scalpel, moved at 45 degrees (superficially), along the skin's surface to smooth and exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and fine vellus hairs. This is enhanced along with a facial massage and is surprisingly relaxing and pain-free. It is a procedure that can be compared to the sensation of shaving your legs.
Once the vellus hair is removed, will it grow back quicker and thicker?
No, this is physiologically impossible. The soft, fine vellus hair will grow back slowly – usually in about 4 weeks- and will be no different than it was previously.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions is up to you. Dermaplaning can be carried out every 3-4 weeks. Treating the skin in this manner removes about 2 – 3 weeks' worth of dead skin cells. You should always leave enough time between treatments to allow the skin to complete its normal skin cycle of approximately 30 days before repeating.
Who is not suitable for the treatment?
Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types/people; however, it is not ideal for clients who have:
- Active bacterial and viral skin infections or conditions (eg, active herpes).
- Fever or current infections.
- Skin peels – wait 2 weeks to avoid hyperchromia.
- Received Botox, Dermal Fillers, PDO Threads, Laser Resurfacing, or Laser Hair Removal in the last 6 weeks.
- Active acne.
The caveat to any of the reasons above is that your local medical professional, such as a GP or nurse, must sign off to say that treatment can proceed.
What is the pre-care procedure?
Before your procedure, clients are advised of the following:
- Do not use Retin-A or other exfoliating creams 72 hours before your treatment.
- Avoid sun tanning or tanning creams/sprays for at least a week before treatment.
- You must NOT have had laser surgery or used Accutane within the past 6 months. Accutane (isotretinoin) is a medication approved to treat acne. During therapy and for up to 6 months after completing isotretinoin, the skin is highly sensitive, and the risk of scarring is high; therefore, it is recommended that you wait at least 6 months after completing therapy before considering Dermaplaning.
- Clients who have had a recent chemical peel or other skin procedure, such as Botox or filler injections, should wait two weeks before undergoing Dermaplaning.
- Clients should also refrain from waxing the skin to be treated for 72 hours before Dermaplaning.
- Clients must not have an active cold sore. If you are prone to cold sores, please let us know so we can discuss your options.
What is the aftercare procedure?
To maximise recovery time and results, it is essential to follow all post-procedure instructions below:
- Wash your face with a gentle, acid-free cleanser and tepid water, and avoid topical products that contain alpha or beta hydroxyl acids, retinols, or Retin-A for approximately 72 hours (longer if possible). If irritation occurs after applying the above products, wait a few more days to allow your skin to heal. Under no circumstances should you use a product that abrades the skin within the 72 hours (no scrubs), nor should you submerge the treated area in a chlorinated pool or hot tub for 3 to 5 days.
- Avoid sun exposure as much as possible for at least 14 days after treatment. If you must be in the sun, apply SPF 30 or greater, reapply often, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and seek shade when possible.
- Avoid excessive heat for 14 days post-treatment, e.g., heavy workouts, steam rooms, or saunas.
- Avoid chlorine for 24 hours.
- Avoid facial waxing for 7 days.
- Avoid dermal fillers and Botox for 2 to 3 weeks.
- Do not pick, scratch, or rub the treated area.
- Aggressively: No scrubs, polishers, or aggressive brushes should be used for 7 days.
- Makeup may be worn if the skin is not broken.
- Do apply serums, as absorption levels will increase and, therefore, effectiveness is increased.
Should you need clarification on any of the above or further aftercare advice, do not hesitate to contact the clinic.
How successful is Dermaplaning?
Initial results can be seen instantly. Absorption levels remain elevated for at least 7 days post-treatment, and results last up to 4 weeks.
Maintenance can be carried out every 3-4 weeks for optimal results.
Dermaplaning is generally most effective right before an LED Light Therapy treatment, as it helps enhance the absorption of light into the skin's epidermis, speeding up the benefits.
What are the healing expectations after dermaplaning?
- Slight windburn sensation and/or blotchiness for the first few days.
- Skincare products may tingle or slightly burn for the first 2 days.
- May experience slight peeling for the first few days.
What are the potential risks and complications?
- Breakouts
- Redness & irritation
Other rare risks/complications are:
- Nicks and cuts can cause damage to the skin
- Infection
- Discolouration of tissue (hyper/hypopigmentation)
Anti-Wrinkle Injection
What are Anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles and are generally used to smooth out lines and wrinkles, such as crow's feet and frown lines.
Botulinum toxin injections are also a treatment option for controlling the symptoms of severe underarm sweating when other treatments have not been successful. Botulinum toxin is injected into the skin and works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands.
What do Anti-wrinkle injections treat?
Our Anti-wrinkle injection treatments can address a variety of concerns, including but not limited to:
- Forehead Lines
- Frown Lines
- Crow's Feet

How long do Anti-wrinkle injections take?
We allow a minimum appointment time of 35 minutes for one area. The total time is dictated by the number of regions/concerns you would like to address.
Are Anti-wrinkle injections painful?
Administered by a skilled aesthetician, anti-wrinkle injections should not hurt the client. Anti-wrinkle injections may feel like a slight pinch or sting, but most patients do not require a topical or local anaesthetic for pain relief.
How many sessions will I need?
Depending on the desired results, a top-up may be needed two weeks after the initial treatment.
Multiple treatments may be required if the anatomical shape needs to be altered.
Maintenance is recommended every 6-24 months thereafter, depending on the area being addressed.

- Avoid blood-thinning agents for 1 week prior, if safe to do so/cleared by your medical professional. This includes: aspirin and ibuprofen.
- Avoid waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.
What is the aftercare procedure?
Aftercare is as important as your treatment. If you do not perform good aftercare, your results will be severely affected.
- Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area. Unless instructed by the provider.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
- Avoid prolonged sun or heat for 72 hours, including steam rooms and saunas.
- Avoid anti-inflammatories such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Diclofenac after your treatment for up to 3 days.
- Avoid consuming excess alcohol or salt for 24 hours to reduce swelling.
- If you experience swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour.
- Try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.
- Take Arnica to help with bruising and swelling; start at least 2 days before injections.
- If you are prone to cold sores and have filler around the lip area, please let us know
- Do NOT lie down or tilt the head forward for 4 hours after your treatment. This will prevent the product from tracking into the orbit of your eye and causing a drooping eyelid.
- Sleep on your back or on an elevated surface for the first evening.
- Do NOT receive facial, laser treatments or microdermabrasion after Anti-wrinkle injections for at least 10 days. Ask your provider if you are unsure about the time frame for certain services.

- Transient headache
- Flu-like symptoms may occur.
Please note that failure to follow the aftercare advice given can increase some of these risks.
Body Contouring FAQs
What is body contouring?
This treatment uses non-invasive muscle-stimulating and skin-tightening treatments (Radio Frequencies & Dynamic Muscle Activation). These can be recommended individually or together, depending on the desired results.
The treatment harnesses the body's natural processes to deliver the most effective skin-tightening, body-contouring, and cellulite-reduction results. Radio Frequencies & Dynamic Muscle Activation treatment is based on lipolysis – a natural fat-metabolism process that occurs whenever we fast or engage in intensive exercise.
Focused Radiofrequency treatment uses oscillating electric currents through an antenna or electrode to generate electromagnetic waves. Penetrating down into the skin energy, safely heating the fat layer, causing fat cells to increase their metabolism, release lipids (liquid fat) into their environment and to shrink.
At the same time, Dynamic Muscle Activation (DMA) rapidly stimulates the muscle to cycle through concentric and eccentric phases. These muscle contractions squeeze the fat cells, causing them to release even more fat, which is then pushed toward the lymphatic drainage.
In addition, Radiofrequency energy stimulates fibroblasts (a type of skin cell that produces new collagen and elastin fibres), resulting in immediate and long-term skin tightening.
What can body contouring treat?
Our body contouring treatments can address a variety of concerns, including but not limited to:
- Diminish stubborn fat deposits
- Contour the body and reduce the circumference
- Reduce the appearance of cellulite
- Tighten the skin and reduce laxity in the tummy, arms, buttocks, legs and thighs
- Improve the texture of the skin
- Firm the muscles
How long does body contouring take?
We allow a minimum appointment time of 70 minutes; however, this will vary depending on the number and size of the area(s) you want to address.
Is body contouring painful?
Some clients may experience mild discomfort depending on their threshold. The sensation experienced during Dynamic Muscle Activation (DMA) is best described as similar to an elastic band pinging the skin. Radiofrequency treatment feels like a warm sensation on the skin, though if you're sensitive to heat, you might find it slightly uncomfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
The effect of this treatment is cumulative; more sessions will provide greater results for longer.
- We recommend 4-8 treatments, 1-2 weeks apart
- Muscle, if not maintained, will naturally begin to lose mass, tone, and strength after 2 weeks of reduced activity.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
Contraindications for DMA & Radiofrequency can include, but are not limited to:
- Clients who are Pregnant or Breastfeeding
- Autoimmune disorders such as HIV/AIDS
- Presence of fibroids in the selected treatment area
- Cancer (all forms) or clients undergoing chemotherapy or immunotherapy
- Immunodeficiency
- Lupus
- High blood pressure (uncontrolled)
- Diabetes (uncontrolled)
- Prednisone and other steroid medications (radiofrequency treatment may increase inflammation)
- Heart problems or diseases
- Kidney damage, diseases or problems
- Liver damage, diseases or problems
- Haemorrhagic disease, trauma or bleeding
- Numb or insensitive to heat
- Rosacea
- An active implanted device, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator
- Epilepsy

- Avoid any facial peels for 4 weeks before treatment.
What is the aftercare procedure?
- Refrain from tanning or excessive sun exposure for 24 hours
- Drink plenty of water over the next 24 hours
If you have any questions pre- or post-treatment, please contact the clinic for advice.
How successful is body contouring?
The effect of this treatment is cumulative; more sessions will provide greater results for longer.
- Skin tightening results immediately after the first treatment
- Body contouring results may also be noticed after one treatment
- Long-term results are mostly visible 6-8 weeks after the last session.
- A course of treatments will always show greater results.
How long does it take to heal?
Typically, there is minimal downtime with body contouring – though it depends on the size of the treated area and its location.
From DMA:
Muscle tenderness for up to 48 hours (on par with exercise)
Potential muscle bruising, which will subside within a few days.
From Radiofrequency:
Potential redness, skin sensitivity and/or soreness in the first 72 hours
You may experience increased passing of urine; it may also be stronger/darker in colour.
What are the potential risks and complications?
Body contouring is a low-risk procedure. However, with any procedure (no matter how low the risk), there may be side effects, which will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation.
These can include:
- Local pain
- Excessive skin redness (erythema)
- Excessive swelling (oedema)
- Damage to the natural skin texture (crust, blister, burn)
- Fragile skin, change of pigmentation (hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation)
- Bruising and scarring.
Cryotherapy FAQs
What is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is an innovation in the fast, effective and safe removal of various skin imperfections. It works by emitting a fine jet of N2O at high pressure with millimetre-precision. This destroys the targeted tissue by freezing intercellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals, rupturing membranes, and killing cells. The precise, accurate nature of the treatment also means there is no damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
What conditions can Cryotherapy treat?
Our Cryotherapy treatments can address a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Skin Tags
- Age Spots/Liver Spots
- Milia
- Warts
- Keratosis and other HPV-related lesions
- Verrucae
- Cherry Angioma
How long does Cryotherapy take?
The treatment duration will vary based on the surface area and thickness of the tissue being treated, ranging from 10 to 40 minutes, depending on your reaction/tolerance to treatment.
That said, Cryotherapy typically takes no more than a minute to perform on a small area of skin, making it one of the most desirable methods for removing skin imperfections.
Is Cryotherapy painful?
The sensation experienced during Cryotherapy is best described as similar to that of a nettle sting. After the treatment, there may be a few seconds of residual stinging, but it is generally only felt during the actual application (between 1 and 30 seconds). There could be mild discomfort for up to a few hours after the treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically, skin tags, age spots, milia, and cherry angiomas can be treated in one session (two sessions may be needed if large). Warts and verrucae tend to require two or more sessions to ensure complete removal.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
Clients with any of the following conditions are unfortunately unsuitable for Cryotherapy:
- Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
- Dermal fillers in the affected area
- Hepatitis
- Scleroderma
- Raynaud's Phenomenon
- Immuno Suppression
- Cryoglobulinemia
- Multiple Myeloma
- Pyoderma Gangrenosum
- Platelet Deficiency Disease
- Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus Type III (HTLV III)
- Lymphadenopathy Associated Virus (LAV)
- Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Caveat being, if your local medical professional, such as a GP or nurse, has signed off to say that treatment can go ahead.
What is the pre-care procedure?
Ensure that the area has not received trauma for two weeks prior, including but not limited to:
- Burns
- Laser treatments
- Acids
Other than the above, there is no notable pre-procedure advice before Cryotherapy. Some clients like taking a couple of paracetamol before their appointment to ensure minimal discomfort, but this is unnecessary.
What is the aftercare procedure?
- Do NOT scratch or pick the treated area; allow any scab to fall away naturally.
- No abrasive cleaning/exfoliating.
- Gently wash and pat dry.
- Use Clinicare SPF 30-50, available in the clinic
- If the treated area is weeping two weeks after treatment, contact the clinic for advice.
- Warts/verrucas should be kept dry and aired when possible.
- Warts/verrucas will need to be filed. Stop when uncomfortable or bleeding.
- You may continue using cosmetics, deodorants, and perfume as usual.
Blistering/sourness/inflammation: This is regarded as a regular occurrence
- Do not pop the blister.
- If an area is sore or catches, use a sterile gauze to cover it, and change it daily.
- Should it burst, use a non-alcoholic wipe to clean the area, and apply a smear of antiseptic cream. It may also be covered with a dressing/plaster.
If the treated area is weeping two weeks after treatment, contact the clinic for advice.
How successful is Cryotherapy?
Results, success and the number of treatments will vary greatly. The general rule: the older, wider, and thicker the lesions, the lower the success rate and the higher the number of treatments required.
- Skin tags, age spots, milia, cherry angiomas: average 90% success within one treatment.
- Warts, Seborrheic Keratosis, Verrucae: average 80% success within two treatments.
How long does it take to heal?
Typically, there is minimal downtime with Cryotherapy, though this depends on the size and location of the treated area.
General healing expectations of common lesions and warts:
Most healing is straightforward and will take place in the 4 to 6 weeks following treatment; however, it can sometimes take longer, as all skin varies.
Any treatments that take longer than 6 weeks to heal may need to be reviewed by your GP or clinic nurse.
If your immune system is compromised, you may still have treatment, BUT healing may take longer, and you may require further treatment.
If the area treated is tanned, the treatment will remove the tanning, and the skin will need to repigment to its original colour. The slight, dry crust that forms should come away after 4 weeks; if not, please wait until it does before contacting us.
During the healing time, you may shower/wash as normal and use your usual cosmetics, including makeup, deodorants and moisturising creams.
Skin Tags
These will turn darker at the base and dry and fall off as the skin beneath them heals over 1 to 6 weeks.
Larger tags may need a second treatment.
If the tag becomes sore or rubs against clothing, it may be covered with a dressing or plaster.
Milia
These are generally small, superficial cysts filled with keratin that usually flatten and resolve with a single treatment and require no aftercare.
Follow the advice for blisters that should form.
Age Spots
The area will often become red and raised, but will go down after a few hours. The pigment will then become darker, and a dry crust will form.
When the crust falls away, the new skin beneath will be pink and shiny. It is essential at this stage that you use sun block with a minimum factor 50 to prevent the pigmentation returning.
Cherry Angioma/Campbell de Morgan
The area will often become red and raised, but will go down after a few hours.
The lesion will shrink away and slowly vanish over 2 to 4 weeks.
Warts and verrucae
As these are viral infections, they may need more than one treatment to destroy the infected cells.
The second treatment can be completed 4 weeks after the first. If you see black spots in the wart or verruca, then it is dying away and should disappear over the following weeks
There is no specific aftercare.
Follow the advice for blisters that should form.
What are the potential risks and complications?
Cryotherapy is a low-risk procedure. However, with any procedure (no matter how low the risk), there may be side effects, which will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation.
These can include:
- Blisters may form, but do not lance. Keep the area clean.
- Headaches are not uncommon when freezing on the forehead, scalp and temples and can last for up to 2 hours.
- Local discolouration of the skin (post-inflammatory hyper/hypo-pigmentation)
- 20% chance of any single hair follicle being damaged.
- Temporary pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia
- Scaring
- Cryosurgery can also damage underlying structures, such as the nail matrix of the digits or cartilage of the ears and nose, which can result in notching or retraction.
- Temporary local nerve damage.

Dynamic Muscle Activation (DMA) FAQs
What is DMA treatment?
DMA (Dynamic Muscle Activation) stimulates the muscle to rapidly cycle through concentric and eccentric phases using galvanic pulses that trigger controlled SMAS (Subcutaneous Musculo-Aponeurotic System) contractions. These contractions reinforce the underlying muscles and facilitate a skin-lifting effect, improving blood supply, muscle density, and mass (to replace that which diminishes in maturing tissue).
DMA can be used alongside Radiofrequency, which encourages greater fibroblast activity by heating the deep dermis and increasing collagen regeneration.
What does DMA treat?
Our DMA Treatments can be applied as a stand-alone treatment, though they are most effective when combined with Radiofrequency Treatment. Together, these can address a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:
- Non-invasive fat reduction and lymphatic drainage
- Skin tightening, lifting and toning
- Long-lasting wrinkle reduction results
- Long-term body shaping
How long does DMA take?
The duration of the treatment will vary depending on the surface area and the number of areas being treated; however, we generally allocate a minimum appointment time of 70 minutes.
Is DMA painful?
Some clients may experience mild discomfort depending on their threshold. The sensation experienced during Dynamic Muscle Activation (DMA) is best described as similar to an elastic band pinging the skin.
How many sessions will I need?
For optimal results, we recommend 4-8 treatments, 1-2 weeks apart. It is worth noting that muscle will naturally begin to lose mass, tone, and strength after 2 weeks of reduced activity.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
Contraindications for DMA can include, but are not limited to:
- Clients who are Pregnant or Breastfeeding
- Autoimmune disorders such as HIV/AIDS
- Presence of fibroids in the selected treatment area
- Cancer (all forms) or clients undergoing chemotherapy or immunotherapy
- Immunodeficiency
- Lupus
- High blood pressure (uncontrolled)
- Diabetes (uncontrolled)
- Prednisone and other steroid medications (radiofrequency treatment may increase inflammation)
- Heart problems or diseases
- Kidney damage, diseases or problems
- Liver damage, diseases or problems
- Haemorrhagic disease, trauma or bleeding
- Numb or insensitive to heat
- Rosacea
- An active implanted device, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator
- Epilepsy
- Transplant Anti-Rejection Drugs
- Thyroid Disease
Caveat being, if your local medical professional, such as a GP or nurse, has signed off to say that treatment can go ahead.
What is the pre-care procedure?
Please make your practitioner aware of any medical conditions that may affect the treatment, such as pregnancy, cold-sore tendencies, allergies, recent facial peels, laser or surgery, and any contraindicated medications, such as Accutane, hormone replacement therapy, steroidal drugs, or Retin-A. Contraindicated medications should be discontinued five days before the treatment, except Accutane, which must be discontinued for six months prior.

Result expectations:
- Skin tightening results immediately after the first treatment.
- Body contouring results may also be noticed after one treatment.
- Long-term results are mostly visible 6-8 weeks after the last session.
How long does DMA take to heal?
- Muscle tenderness for up to 48 hours (on par with exercise)
- Potential muscle bruising, which will subside within a few days.
What are the potential risks and complications?
Possible side effects of the treatment include:
- Local pain.
- Excessive skin redness (erythema).
- Excessive swelling (oedema).

- Fragile skin, change of pigmentation (hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation).
- Bruising and scarring.
Fat Dissolving Injections FAQs
What are fat-dissolving injections?
An alternative to Liposuction, Aqualyx® is a non-surgical fat dissolving injection treatment that uses a solution of deoxycholic acid to safely and effectively eliminate small and stubborn pockets of fat.
Aqualyx® is injected into target areas and works by breaking down the cell membrane, liquefying fat cells, and destroying them permanently. The lipids are then eliminated naturally through the body's lymphatic drainage system.
What areas can fat-dissolving injections treat?
Our fat-dissolving treatment with Aqualyx® can address several areas. These areas include, but are not limited to:
- Double chin (pocket of fat under the chin)
- Back fat – Bra back fat
- Arm fat (bingo wing area) – an alternative to arm liposuction
- Stomach fat and six-pack definition/six-pack abs
- Love handles
- Flanks and waist
- Inner and outer thighs
- The area under the buttocks
- Bingo wings
- Fat knees /fat above knees
How long do fat-dissolving injections take?
The treatment duration will vary based on the surface area and thickness of the tissue being treated, ranging from 10 to 40 minutes, depending on your reaction/tolerance to treatment.
That said, Cryotherapy typically takes no more than a minute to perform on a small area of skin, making it one of the most desirable methods for removing skin imperfections.
Are fat-dissolving injections painful?

Lancing FAQs
What is Lancing?
Lancing is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment used to treat certain benign (non-cancerous) skin lesions by creating a small, controlled opening in the skin using a sterile, single-use lancet or needle.
The procedure allows the safe drainage or release of a lesion's contents, i.e., an epidermal cyst, milia, or select pustules.
It is performed under strict aseptic conditions, and no large incisions or sutures are required, so the surrounding skin is preserved to minimise trauma and support the skin's natural healing process.
Lancing is not a medical excision and is only performed on lesions deemed suitable following a professional consultation.
What can lancing treat?
Lancing may be suitable for a range of superficial benign skin lesions, including but not limited to:
- Milia (small keratin-filled cysts)
- Closed comedones (blocked pores)
- Pustules
- Superficial epidermoid cysts (where appropriate)
- Other similar benign lesions following assessment
All lesions must be visually assessed before treatment to determine that they are benign and suitable for treatment.
Lesions that are pigmented, vascular, irregular, bleeding, painful, or changing in appearance may not be treated and will be referred to a GP or dermatologist where appropriate.
How long does a Lancing appointment take?
The treatment appointment is typically completed within 30 minutes if the appointment includes a consultation and aftercare.
Is lancing painful?
Pain tolerance varies, but the procedure is generally well tolerated.
- Discomfort is usually minimal and short-lived.
- Most clients experience a brief, sharp sensation or pressure; however, topical numbing agents may be used if appropriate.
- Certain areas (such as around the eyes) may feel more sensitive.
How many sessions will I need?
- Many benign lesions can be treated in a single session.
- Multiple lesions or recurring conditions may require additional sessions.
- Some lesions, such as milia, may recur due to skin type or skincare habits.
Your practitioner will advise on the most appropriate treatment plan following assessment.
Who is not suitable for the treatment?
Lancing may not be suitable for clients who:
- Have suspicious, pigmented, vascular, bleeding, or changing lesions.
- Have active skin infections, cold sores, or inflamed acne in the treatment area.
- Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.
- Have bleeding disorders or are taking certain anticoagulant medications.
- Have uncontrolled diabetes or impaired wound healing.
- Are immunocompromised.
- Are you pregnant or breastfeeding (relative contraindication depending on lesion type)?
If there is any uncertainty, treatment will be postponed and medical advice recommended.
What is the pre-care procedure?
To prepare for your Lancing treatment:
- Do not apply makeup or heavy skincare to the treatment area on the day of the treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before our appointment.
- Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements where medically safe.
- Do not pick, squeeze, or manipulate the lesion beforehand.
- Avoid tanning, sunburn, or self-tanning products in the area.
- Inform your practitioner of any medical conditions or medications you are taking.
What is the aftercare procedure?
Correct aftercare is essential to promote healing and reduce complications.
- Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours.
- Avoid touching, picking, or squeezing the treated area.
- Avoid makeup on the area for at least 24–48 hours.
- Avoid swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 24–48 hours.
- Apply aftercare products as instructed.
- Once healed, apply a minimum SPF 30+ daily to protect the skin.
- Avoid exfoliants, acids, retinoids, and active skincare until fully healed.
- If a scab forms, do not pick; allow it to detach naturally.
How successful is Lancing?
Lancing is generally highly effective when used on suitable benign lesions.
- Immediate visible improvement is often seen.
- Success depends on lesion type, depth, and individual skin response.
- Some lesions may recur and require further treatment.
Number of treatments recommended for optimal results:
- 1 treatment for the most suitable lesions.
- Additional treatments may be required for multiple or recurring lesions.
What are the healing expectations for Lancing?
- Healing is typically quick and uncomplicated.
- Mild redness or pinpoint bleeding immediately after treatment.
- A small scab may form and usually resolves within 3–7 days.
- Temporary sensitivity or redness may occur.
- When aftercare is followed, healing usually occurs without scarring.
Healing times vary depending on lesion size, depth, and location.
What are the potential risks and complications of Lancing?
Although generally safe, potential risks include:
- Infection
- Temporary redness or swelling
- Scabbing or delayed healing
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Scarring (rare)
- Lesion recurrence
Note that failure to follow aftercare advice can increase these risks.
Mesotherapy FAQs
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive technique that uses excellent needles to deliver a series of injections into the middle layer (mesoderm) of the skin. These solutions typically contain a combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and/or other skin-revitalising ingredients.
The treatment works by delivering active ingredients directly to their most effective sites, stimulating fibroblast activity to encourage collagen and elastin production.
Mesotherapy enhances skin hydration, skin tone, and overall skin quality, and can also improve sluggish blood circulation, pigmentation concerns, and acne scarring.
What conditions can Mesotherapy treat?
Mesotherapy treatments can address a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to:
- Dehydrated or dull skin
- Fine lines and early wrinkles
- Loss of firmness and elasticity
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Pigmentation concerns
- Acne-prone or congested skin
- Appearance of enlarged pores
- Sun-damaged or prematurely aged skin
- Dark circles and crepey skin around the eyes (when suitable)
- Hair thinning or hair loss (scalp mesotherapy)
- Stretch marks and superficial scarring
- Skin laxity on the face, neck, décolleté and hands
How long does Mesotherapy take?
Mesotherapy can take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on whether it is administered by injection or other methods such as microneedling.
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed before treatment, and a topical anaesthetic cream may be applied and left on for 20–30 minutes, if required.
The mesotherapy solution is administered using a fine needle or via microneedling.
Via Microneedling, the device is repeatedly moved across the skin to produce thousands of micro-medical needle columns.
Is Mesotherapy painful?
Discomfort is generally mild and well-tolerated. The area may be anaesthetised with a topical local anaesthetic and should not be painful. However, clients may experience a light stinging or prickling sensation during treatment, and more sensitive areas may feel slightly more uncomfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
This will depend on a number of factors, including age, the area being treated, and skin condition and damage. In most cases, it is a course of 3 or 6 treatments, generally spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are typically advised every 3–6 months to sustain results, depending on each individual. Your specialist will advise on a personalised treatment plan following consultation.
Who is not suitable for the procedure?
Mesotherapy is suitable for most skin types.
