What Scar Revision Means for You
Scars can form for many reasons, from surgery to skin injury. Every scar is unique in structure, texture, and how it heals. At Cambridge Contour Clinic, we provide targeted, minimally invasive treatments designed to enhance the look and feel of scar tissue, promoting a smoother, more even surface and colour, all while respecting your skin's individuality.
Our Process
1
Consultation
Every scar is different; therefore, so is our approach. We begin with a detailed visual assessment of your scar, assessing:
- Scar type and depth (flat, indented, or raised)
- Location and size
- Age and healing stage of the scar
- Your skin type and comfort preferences
You'll receive a full explanation of your treatment options, expected outcomes, and any risks, with supporting images or video examples. We then recommend a tailored plan, which may include one or both treatment types to achieve a balanced, refined result. You'll leave fully informed and confident before making your decision.
2
Quote & Plan
- You'll be given a fixed, transparent quote before treatment begins - no surprises.
- For multi-session treatments, you'll know the exact cost per visit.
3
Treatment Session
Treatment times vary depending on the treatment option, surface area, and thickness of the tissue being treated, but we allocate a minimum appointment time of 60 minutes for microneedling and 20 minutes for steroid injections. We allocate extra time so you never feel rushed.
- Our specialists combine precision, safety and empathy. Treatment is carried out under sterile, clinical conditions using CE-certified equipment.
- You can drive or return to normal activity straight away.
- Both are reasonably comfortable and leave no open wounds.
4
Aftercare & Healing
- All our treatments here at Cambridge Contour Clinic conclude with personalised aftercare advice, tools and products specific to the treatment received. This will aid you in getting the absolute most out of any treatment given, and allow you to fully reap the benefits in the days/weeks to follow.
- Both treatments have very little downtime.
- With Microneedling, you can expect mild redness or flaking that settles quickly as healthy skin renews.
5
Follow-Up & Results
- A complimentary review at 4 weeks ensures the area has healed as expected.
- With the nature of scar revision, either treatment option will most likely require multiple treatments.
Microneedling & Mesotherapy
Stimulate skin renewal and improve texture through advanced collagen induction.
Microneedling uses fine sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin, encouraging collagen and elastin regeneration. When combined with Mesotherapy, the infusion of nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamins and amino acids, it enhances hydration and cellular repair.
It is ideal for flat, indented, or uneven scars, including but not limited to post-surgical and acne scars.
Benefits
- Improves texture and smoothness
- Enhances skin tone and hydration
- Minimal downtime
- Suitable for most skin types
Considerations
3 to 6 treatments may be recommended depending on the area being treated and the size and thickness of the scar tissue. Treatments are spaced 4 and 8 weeks apart. Not recommended for raised or keloid scars.
Steroid (Corticosteroid) Injections
An injectable option for flattening and softening raised scars.
Steroid injections deliver a small dose of corticosteroid (e.g., triamcinolone) directly into the scar tissue to reduce inflammation and excess collagen formation. This helps flatten and lighten hypertrophic or keloid scars over time.
It is ideal for raised, thickened, or itchy scars, such as hypertrophic or keloid.
Benefits
- Reduces height and firmness
- Soothes redness or itch
- Quick in-clinic treatment
- Proven intended result
Considerations
- May require several sessions, spaced weeks apart.
- Studies show that recurrence of the keloid lesion can be up to 50% after treatment.
- Possible mild pigment or texture changes may occur.

Scar revision Frequently Asked Questions
Will my scar disappear completely?
No treatment can guarantee the removal of a scar entirely, but we focus on visible, meaningful improvement in texture and tone.
Is there downtime?
Minimal. Microneedling causes mild redness for 24–48 hours; steroid injections have little to no downtime.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically, 3–5 for microneedling; 2–4 or more for steroid injections, depending on response.
Are the treatments safe?
Both are well-established, clinician-performed procedures with strong safety records when carried out by a professional following certified protocol.
Can these be combined with other treatments?
In some cases, yes. Your clinician will advise if other therapies may complement the results.
